In school i'm always using the computer any many ways. One of the ways is using MS Word. I've used Word to write lots of papers for high school classes and college classes. I've also used word to make study guides to prepare for exams or quizzes and I've also used MS word to take notes for classes such a this one right here. I've seen my teachers use Word in many of the same ways. They may use it to type up quizzes or test or use it to write the lesson plan to post on the board for students to see when they get to class. Teachers may use Word to help keep track of the different things they do throughout class that day as well.
In college I've had a few run ins with copyright when trying to write papers or make power points for some of my classes. I've had to go and check with my professors and even look online when i wanted to use a picture or a video clip that tied in things to make sure they were okay to use without getting in trouble. I've also had to copyright a paper of my own before that I've used in a state wide competition when I was younger. If I were a teacher when it comes to having students create their own work I would give them a guide on copyright and the steps they need to follow to avoid it as they do their work along the way. When it comes to creating my own material, I would carefully go over each and everything as I came up with the ideas checking online to make sure that it hasn't already been used. If it has I would try and get permission to use the item if I really needed it for that class at that time.
I would choose cyber bullying and academic dishonesty to implement actions in my class room because those are two major factors that are going on in education right now. Cyber bullying takes on major toll on kids of all ages in school. In my classroom students would be limited to the amount of internet access they had while in class and what they could do while on the internet. If found that a student is cyber bullying some one especially while in class I would report them to the principle and to the authorities. Once they receive the proper discipline and were aloud back into the class room and I would take away their access to the internet unless I was sitting with them while they did their work. Even if that meant they had to come in after class or during a free period they may have to get their work done. When it comes to academic dishonesty students would only get one chance in the class room. If its younger kids they would receive an automatic zero the first time and if caught again they would be sent straight to the principle. If its with older kids they would be sent right to the principle or dean and be expelled for cheating. At that age they should know better.

Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI personally never used word for anything other than writing papers, and even then, my school was much more Google Docs oriented. I'm excited to see all the things MS Word has offered you and your teachers for education.
Your ideas about giving a guide to students to help them figuring out copyrighting issues is a really good way to keep them informed. It will also show them good habits by seeing you following copyright guidelines strictly.
I chose cyber bullying and academic dishonesty as my actions to implement in the classroom as well. Cyber bullying is such an important conversation to have with children because it can be really out of our reach as teachers, so it is important we instill good values in the children we teach. Same goes for academic dishonesty, but that one is more in a teacher's realm of control.
